We are halfway in.
First off, Easter presented a little dilemma. John and I wanted to go to Radium for the long weekend. He only has a few of these and we wanted to take full advantage of this one. It had been a long winter which was encouraging us to leave Medicine Hat for greener pastures, albeit for just the weekend. This certain weekend was also Easter weekend which meant a visit from the Easter Bunny. How could we be in two places at the same time? We really wanted to be in the Hot Springs at Radium while Kendra was looking forward to an Easter Egg Hunt in our own backyard. This is how the weekend went.
Good Friday, 4:30am: "Mom! Mom! Mom!" I heard from Kendra's bedroom. She was in a panic. It was still dark out and felt like the middle of the night. Yes, it was still the middle of the night. I wondered what could be the matter. A bad dream? She fell out of bed and seriously injured herself? She's suddenly contracted some terrible illness? I ran to Kendra's room, tripping over the vacuum placed next to our bedroom door, only to be greeted with, "Is it time to wake up?" "NO!" I answer with authority. I tried to sleep next to her but finally at 6am, I sneaked out of the room and woke John to go put the eggs out in the backyard. Kendra had not gone back to sleep. She was too excited.
We had decided to do the egg hunt before we left. I had 'contacted' the Easter Bunny and had told him to come early. The hunt went off without a hitch. We spoiled her as usual. As it was, we didn't get going till about 8am.
It was a long trip. It usually takes about 6 hours to Radium, but with bathroom and coffee stops, it actually took about 7 hours. We arrived in good form at about 3pm, just in time for an afternoon swim. It was lovely, a bit warmer than usual.
We spent dinner at Huckleberry's (Kendra had pancakes and bacon) in Invermere and then back to the hotsprings. I think it was about 10pm before we actually got into our motel room and into bed. Kendra was exhausted. Our motel wasn't the greatest, but it allowed us to spend a peaceful night sleeping. I got it at a deal: $74/night.
Saturday: We got up early and went back to Huckleberry's to have breakfast. (Kendra had the same thing as last night.) and then back to the pool! We grabbed lunch at a small sandwich shop and then headed off to Lussier Hot Springs. This more of a natural spring off in the mountains past Canal Flats, right beside White Swan Provincial Park. We'd been here once before. The springs themselves smell of sulfur . There are 3 makeshift pools that are varying degrees of warm, set beside a glacier fed river. There is a steep walk down to the pools, but it is well worth it. Last time the trail was covered in ice; this time we had luck on our side. Kendra decided that she wasn't going to go in the pools while still at the top of the hill. I brought her suit, just in case she changed her mind. John and I changed into our suits in the car, rather than using the port-o-potties. Once down the mountain, Kendra saw them and her eyes lit up. She wanted to join us, but refused to put her suit on behind a tree. She wanted to back up the hill to the van and get changed there. I convinced that this was a job for him. I enjoyed the pools while they were gone. Once back, Kendra tried the water, but the bottom of the pool had small rocks. Our princess didn't want any part of it. She compromised and sat on my lap.
That day ended with dinner at where else? Huckleberries and a swim at Radium. We went to sleep late again.
Sunday: Early to rise and off by 8 to Calgary. McDonald's for breakfast in Canmore. My, aren't we healthy these days. I add fruit when possible, but seriously, when we are rushed, we don't eat well. We headed straight to Calgary Zoo. We thought there might be some Easter festivities happening, but we were disappointed. We did get to see the new baby giraffe. We walked and walked and walked. 5 hours later, we checked into our hotel. It was a new Best Western in Calgary. We had gotten the introductory offer of $104/night. It was fantastic. The rooms were large and comfortable. There was even a duvet on the bed. Kendra and I went swimming in the pool. She could touch everywhere! There was a water slide, but she doesn't 'do' water slides. This place even came with a full breakfast! If the price doesn't go up too much, we will definitely be back.
Monday: This was shopping day. We spent most of the day at Cross Iron Mills. This mall is fantastic as they have a store fore everything. John even took Kendra to Silver City, a game centre located at the far end. I spent almost $200 dollars on clothes for Kendra. She's been growing so fast that most of her clothes are too small for her. It was a long trip back, but I think she went to sleep pretty fast. The next morning she woke up at 9:30.
It was a good holiday and we're only half way though Spring Break. I think she was bored today. I'm cooking Turkey because I couldn't do it on Easter. It smells so good, but I better go tend to it.
Kendra Juliana
Kendra is my beautiful daughter. She is learning more and more each day. Come take a look to see what she has been up to.
Ding Dong!
Ding Dong! went the door bell. I ran to answer it. A little girl was standing there with an envelope with glitter make up on her eyes and bright red lipstick. She must have in grade 2-3. She asked me if I would like to donate money to a girl named Paige who has a brain tumour and is only in Kindergarten. She wants to go to Disneyland and she was helping to raise money through Make-a-Wish Foundation. She explained on and on. I went to get some money and Kendra ran to her bedroom too and opened her money box. She looked at all the dimes and quarters and then settled on a 5.
"Will this be good, Mommy?"
Of course it will be good, Kendra. I was so proud of my little girl. She is saving for Disneyland herself.
We both ran down and gave it to the girl who had been patiently standing at our front door while we searched the house for money.
Later, I explained to Kendra what a trip to Disneyland might mean to that little girl. She looked quite sad and thoughtful, glad that she could help.
That's my girl!

Just another Day
I haven't posted in over a year, but that doesn't mean nothing happened. It's just that life happens. I've been enjoying time with Kendra. When not with Kendra, I've been tired. It is tiring running after a 6 year old! I work all day, pick Kendra up, play, make dinner, bathe her and by the time she goes to bed, I'm ready for bed too. But I don't go; I usually sit around and veg until I crawl into bed too late.
Kendra is in grade 1 now and doing so well. She is a very good reader and very good in the areas of math and science. I really hope it stays that way. She recently passed her level 2 Red Cross Swimming Lessons. I'm so proud of her. I don't want her to be like her Dad and not swim. She is going to be in soccer starting in a few weeks. She seems to like it. Last year, she took part in the Rattlers soccer summer camp and really enjoyed it. They were tough on her. He muscles ached each evening, but she didn't quit and found that she had learned a lot when she went back to school and played soccer with the other kids. She loves being better. This is motivating her for this season. She loves knowing stuff that the kids do not.
She has one two awards this year at school. The first one was for fair play in phys ed. They gave her a subway giftcard along with a certificate. The second one was a SWEAT award. Student Work Ethic and AchievementT award. I'm so proud of her for this one. She also won 15 dollars to spend at the spring book fair.
I can honestly say that she loves school and all her activities. I wish she had a brother or sister to play with, but that just didn't happen. I wish there were more kids in this neighborhood. She loves to play and sometimes it is exhausting having to be the one she plays with all the time.
We are now looking forward to spring break. We have booked at Radium for the weekend. I need a soak for my joints, muscles and just destressing. We will see if it actually works. We get 10 days off starting in 4 days and I have to say that it will not come soon enough.

Biting
Today was rather uneventful. Kendra got up and wanted to see the funny cat videos on Youtube that her Dad had been showing her the night before.
I went into work to get organized for the remainder of the semester and then met Kendra, John and Deb for lunch at Montana's. Kendra loves that place. Deb gave Kendra a Hanna Montana lamp which we have already set up in her room.
After dinner, John and Kendra were playing and Kendra bit John. I honestly don't think she meant to do it. She felt so bad about it. She said she was 'super sorry'.
Tonight after I put Kendra to bed, she came out and said, "My brain is getting worse!" When I asked how it was getting worse, she told me that it keeps thinking of the bad guys from movies. She had a bad dream the other night about the Grinch stealing Christmas and trying to steal her. Poor Kendra.
Tomorrow she goes back to school after being off for weeks. I hope it goes smoothly for her.

Christmas 2009 and New Year 2010
Some people are wondering how to say that. Is it twenty-ten or two thousand ten? I don't think it matters and Kendra doesn't get it yet. There are many things that she does get though. John bought a little science book and she's been going nuts with science experiments. Maybe she'll be a scientist.
Christmas was good. It was just the 3 of us this year. I made one of those fresh turkeys from Costco. Kendra still insists that she doesn't like turkey.
On Christmas Eve, we went to Theresa's. They spoilt her as usual. One of her presents was a Hannah Montana costume which she wore all Christmas day. We got home in the early evening and Kendra got to open her present from Shaw Cable. It was an amazing pony that when you hold a wand to its head, it walks. Very cool indeed. She put on her Tinkerbell nightie, left cookies and milk for Santa and went to bed. She was so excited, I didn't think she'd ever get to sleep, but she went to sleep really fast.
John and I stayed up wrapping.
The next morning, she woke up so excited. She was dancing in circles screaming that Santa had come. She opened her stocking first. There were some card games, make up and chocolates. Then on to the big presents. She got a guitar and lesson book, Barbie Horse and Carriage, a Baby Achoo Doll and so much more! Relatives spoiled her.
The day went smoothly with me cooking, Kendra playing and John alternating between helping me and playing with Kendra.
The next few days were fun too. We all went tobogganing at Kin Coulee and to a couple of movies. We spent one day in Lethbridge and had Shabu Shabu at New Years.
Kendra's favorite gift was the guitar.
favorite Christmas movie: Christmas Vacation
Favorite Christmas song: Jingle Bells
Favorite Christmas food: bacon? and chocolate.
Favorite Christmas craft: making snowflakes
Favorite activity over the holidays: Going to see 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Squeakual.

Recitals and Concerts
Kendra has had two recitals recently. For her Kindergarten, she did the Christmas concert and for ballet and tap, the recital was held down at the Esplanade... truly amazing. Here are some videos.

Kindergarten
It's been way too long since I posted. Kendra started Kindergarten at the end of August and absolutely loves it. Her teacher, Mrs. F must be doing a great job. Kendra not only goes to before school care, but also after school care. At first, Kendra was a bit shy going in, but I made a deal with her. If she went in 5 times in a row without being shy... just a quick hug and kiss, we could go to Ruckers. It worked!
Kendra got some homework this week. She had to make a poster about herself. She glued on photos and made drawings. It looked great. I don't know how the sharing went. She told me I should have written on where her middle name came from. I wanted it to be her work, so I didn't.
That's all for now.

Off to the petting zoo
That is where we are going to today... the petting zoo at the windmill. I have a feeling that it is no longer there... but we'll see.
We also got a cat. His name is Jingles because he was born on Christmas day. He's a crazy cat but ok. I'm getting used to him. Kendra gets along great with him. She'll pick him up in strange positions and he just hangs there. Today she was pushing him around in the doll stroller!

Chili, pink dresses and ladybugs.
Last week while I was driving Kendra home from daycare she asked what was for dinner. I told her chili but she doesn't like it so she started whining, "I don't like Chili, I don't like Chili. Let's have chicken. I really don't like chili. Don't take it personally, I just don't like chili... lol.
This weekend was the first weekend of spring and Kendra was so excited. Wouldn't you know, it went from cold to warm on this day. Kendra figured it was warm enough for a dress so I put a little pink dress on her to go to school in. When we got there, 2 of her friends had pink dresses on too. Did they plan this?
We found 3 ladybugs in the garden on Saturday. Kendra loves the outdoors. She was searching all over the garden for them. There is still a bit of snow in the garden, but it was so warm. I think it got to 16 and was really sunny. We bought some bulbs this weekend and some seeds. Today we tried to plant some bulbs but the ground was frozen. We did plant some seeds in some starter pots.

Registration for Kindergarten
Today was the day to register Kendra for Kindergarten. I've really been debating which school to send her to. Riverside, Webster Niblock or Vincent Massy? I figured that WN was closest so I'd send her there, but it turns out, it's not the one for our area. So off I went to VM. Seems like a nice school. I'll call later in the year and get a tour for the both of us.
Kendra seems a bit nervous about it all. I'm more excited than she is.
