Kendra is three years old. She has never gotten out of bed on her own. I once told her that she wasn't allowed to get out of bed. I think she was about 20 months old at the time. Now, she will cry from her bed to get up. I have to go in and actually get her out of bed. I can't stand at the door and tell her to get out of bed because she won't. I have to go in there and sit beside the bed. She can do it on her own; she just won't.
That all changed a couple of weeks ago during nap. She actually got herself out of bed. Pretty cool that I didn't have to go in and wake her up.
Fast forward to tonight. She went to bed. All was quiet after a few minutes of song and bashing a plastic hammer into her bed. A while later, she got up by herself. She stood at her door with a HUGE grin on her face and told me that it wasn't bedtime.
So what am I to do? I had to think fast. I told her if she didn't get into bed, I was going to close the door and turn the light out and that she was to stay in bed. She seems to bed OK right now. She isn't sleeping, but she isn't out of bed.
