Funny Stuff by Kendra

She keeps saying: Merry Christmas and all Good night

She took the scale out of the bathroom and weighed herself. I said: How much do you way? She says: 99 pounds!

She's been calling the Christmas lights in the front hall 'candles'. Tonight John turns them on and she kept trying to blow them out.

This kid cracks me up!

Stubborn little girl

We got a big package today from John's family. There were so many presents in the box. Kendra kept saying: " I want open presents NOW!" I told that she had to wait until Christmas to open them... mommy had to wait too. So she sat down hard and got her stubborn look on her face, crossed her arms and said, "I WAIT!" She wouldn't budge at all. She was going to wait there till Christmas... LOL.

Owieeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Kendra got an owie at school today. They had to fill out an accident report. She bumped her mouth./cheek. She screams when I touch it. I don't know if it just stings or if it is something underneath. She fell down at the door sill.

Calgary and Banff for the Weekend

We went to Calgary for Remembrance Day long weekend. The weather was supposed to be nice, but it snowed some. The first day, we went to the Science Centre which is now the Telus Science Centre. There is a wonderful new exhibit there called Creative Kids... so cool.

Here is Kendra in Creative Kids. This was the painting section. Tempra paints on Acrylic glass were used and then just showered and squijeed off.

On Saturday, we drove into Banff. There was a short blizzard while we were in Banff. Did it ever come down! The roads were fairly good though. That evening was spent at Indigo and the hotel pool which was absolutely freezing.

Halloween

Kendra went as Eeyore. She got the hang of it after one house. She'd go up to the house. Say trick or treat, get the candy and then turn around and say 'tank you!' as she ran down the sidewalk. Funny girl.

We also went to Theresa's. Candace and Kristie took her around the block. She ate so much candy, it was funny. She had a good night's sleep though.

On Friday, she asked to go trick or treating again.

Get out of here!

Kendra may have occasional sleep problems but she is very easy to put to bed. When she was a baby I would always have to feed her to sleep until we sleep trained and since then it has been a breeze to get her into bed. (Staying asleep is a different issue). She runs to her bed these days and pulls up her covers. Tonight she did just that, then said 'night night', then 'get out of here mommy!".. so I said Ok... 'night night' and then she said 'love you' as I closed the door. Oh, I love that little girl. She usually takes less than 5 minutes to get to sleep.... with no talking at all.... just an occasional giggle.

Oh, and she sleeps through most of the time now and just has spurts of waking in the night.

First Haircut

I did it this afternoon. I cut her bangs too short! I should have left it. Argh. But she still is darn cute. Favorite saying: It's not fair! or I'm sick! Tylenol Please! or I'm sick! Hold me please!

Bless you.

You know that sound that garbage trucks make? 'Shhhhhhhhhhhht' I think it might be the brakes or something. Anyway, on the way to her day home there was a garbage truck in the next lane and it made that sound, ssssssssssssssht, and Kendra says, 'Bless you'.

LOL!!!! I love this age.

She was sick.

I don't know what was wrong. She had fevers every night this week. She wasn't eating or drinking much and it was freaking me out. I took her to the doctor on Friday and the doctor gave me some antibiotics for her, but he wasn't convinced it was a bacterial infection. She's finally getting some appetite back and has started to drink, although not as much as before. I'm confident she's on the road to recovery!

We bought her birthday present this week. I'm so excited. We've decided not to have a regular birthday party. Only 5 more days!!!!

Our Summer Vacation

We left on July 28 (Fri) after work and drove to Calgary. We stayed at the Best Western near the airport which I will not reccommend to anyone. It was really loud there. There was a pop machine outside our room and people came in all night. I think one party must have got about 20 bottles of pop. Next time, I write an out of order sign on any machine before I go to bed.

The next day, we headed off. When we got to the Rocky's, we heard there were 2-4 hour delays through Kicking Horse Pass because of road construction so we went a different route that put us behind about 1.5 hours. The weather was good, but hot. Kendra was so good. She didn't have a breakdown until about 5 minutes before we got to our campsite because there was a BUG in the car. We had to all get out and DH told the bug to leave, "Out Bug, Out Bug, Go away!" (I didn't actually see it leave, but Kendra was satisfied.)

We finally arrived at our campsite between Kelowna and Vernon at about 7. It's a provincial campsite which we reserved, but it's still on a first come first serve basis. We didn't know this. We drove around and around and around and finally found one where someone had left but hadn't taken the reserved ticket down. It happened to be the best site in the park. We almost lost Kendra while putting up the tent. She wandered off to see the lake and suddenly we see her about 2 feet from the shore. I've never seen DH run so fast! She did great in the tent. She slept on her Dora Toddler air bed and had a glow stick with her until she fell asleep.

The next day Kendra met 'the boy.' There was an 8 year old little russian boy in the site next to ours and Kendra became his shadow. She even took her camping chair over to his campsite to watch the marmots on the cliff behind their site. She always called him 'boy'. It was so cute. They went swimming together, played soccer together. It was a lot of fun for her. Kendra was good about the fire and the camp stove. (Our BBQ broke down the first night). That evening Dh's brother and girlfriend came up. She's a strange one, but she kept quiet most of the time. Mostly we just sat around and talked.

The next day DH's Mom, Step-dad and little sister came up. We had lots of fun the whole day. We all went swimming for most of the day and had a great big campfire dinner. They had to leave a bit early because they had a 3 hour drive back. In the evening all the men around us and the young boys played soccer. DH fell a few times. He is not athletic at all. It was funny. Kendra and I played soccer on the side lines. They also had a maze there made of grass. We had fun chasing each other through the maze.

The next day, we drove 2.5 hours down to Osoyos to see my brother, his wife, and my niece and nephew. Kendra had so much fun in the lake with them. I think there were about 8 ten year old girls and they were all making a fuss of her. When we left, we got about .25 km away and she was asleep!

The next day, we went winery hopping. We went to about 8 wineries and bought lots of wine. I also bought some fantastic salad dressing. Wow. We finished of the day with friends and had a BBQ and then went for coffee.

The next day, we left the Okanagan. It was another long drive into the Kootenays. This part of our vacation was the relaxing part. We were away from family and friends. We spent the next 8 days lazing on the beach, playing with the blow up alligator, tubes and beach balls. We went hiking. We searched for spawning salmon, we walked and swam the sandspit, we went to the hot springs three times. DH went spelunking. (Kendra was too little to take into the cave). One day we went to a place called Crawford Bay. There are all sorts of Artisan places there. We watched ironsmiths, glass blowers, broom makers, potters... and more! The town of Nelson is such a Hippy town. The whole area is very Hippy. While we were waiting for the ferry, a man was swimming in his underwear, and when he got out, he put on his skirt! I've never seen so many dreadlocks in one place. Kendra got addicted to Horsey Rides and needed to wash her hands every 10 minutes (because I gave her a horsey ride to the washroom.) On the last evening it rained so we went to the hot springs again, but our stuff didn't get wet. It was fun!

After the Kootenays we booked into Calgary again. It was another long drive. We were really close to Calgary in a place called Black Diamond when I noticed the rear right tire was very low. It was only at 20lbs! So we filled with air and drove down the road to a garage but they had no mechanics on. Then suddenly a terrible storm came. There was hail, rain, thunder, lightning, and wind. We waited out the storm and put a can of fix a flat in the tire and drove to Calgary.

The next day, we tried to get the tire fixed in Calgary, but they couldn't find the leak because of the fix a flat stuff. I did go shopping and got some fall clothes for Kendra from TCP, and Old Navy. We did lots of shopping and continued to fill our already full van.

The next day, the tire was flat AGAIN! So we took it in and they fixed it... for free. Gotta like that. It gave me time to do some MORE shopping. We then went to the Zoo. I think Kendra has a think for monkeys. It started to rain and we decided to make our way home. Again, Kendra was very good in the car.

The trip was great. Kendra has really started talking. She's using 3,4,5,6 word sentences. She's a bit bossy... LOL. Her vocabulary has grown tremendously. Even her dexterity has improved.

Now we are back to potty training. She seems excited about it. I'm doing the M&M thing now.

Hide and Seek

I've been trying to teach Kendra and she's getting the hang of it, but not quite. Here's how it went:

We start in the Kitchen and I tell her to count to five and then come find me. On try number 3, she kind of gets it. "One two three five!" I am running like crazy to the bedroom a few feet away. I make it. 1 second later she finds me. This continues a while longer when she realizes it would be easier to find me if she knew where I was to begin with so she starts telling me where to hide!

"Hide here mommy" ... yes, I hide behind the door like she says. She runs to the kitchen and says, "One, three, five!" She runs to the bedroom and looks 3 different places before finding me.

This goes on for a while.

So then I try to her to hide. I tell her to hide behind the door. I run to the kitchen and count but each time I get to five, she comes out laughing, screaming and giggling, "found me!!!!"

We switch again. She counts, "One, Five!" I'm running like hell now. You should see me fly over the bed to the other side on the floor before she gets around the corner.

So, she's learning. I'm proud of her and she's having lots of fun.

A Day at Echodale

We went out to Echodale with Candace, Kristie and Theresa. The weather wasn't overly hot. It was just right for us. The girls took Kendra in the lake and played and played and played with her. They then went over to the farm to say the baby animals. When they came back, Kendra wanted to go in the water again. She kept them going! She had some ice-cream and fries too. They played on the sand and built sandcastles.

I have almost set up for the Garage Sale. I wonder if anyone will come? It'll be held on Friday and Saturday. There really is so much stuff. Perhaps I'll have another garage sale at the end of the summer.

Parentlink

Today we went to Parentlink for the third time. The first time was when I had a day off in the spring. Kendra did ok and seemed to enjoy herself. We went again on Tuesday and Kendra seemed bored. She was tired because she'd been up late because of the new bed. I had to be next to her at all times and during song and story time, she was glued to me. Today she did much better. She participated in the activities, helped clean up and was one of the first to sit down when story time was announced. She sat right at the front. She looked so grown up. After a bit, she did come and sit by me though. At snack time, she raced to the tray and picked out some cookies. She knew what she wanted and how to get it. My baby is growing up!

We then went to Central Park. Kendra wasn't interested in the waterpark, so we headed over to the swings. She went on the swings, the slide, the merry go round, and the 'rides'. We tried the waterpark again, but she wasn't interested.

Lunch was chicken soup and crackers and yogurt for dessert. Naptime was easy.

After nap, we went outside and played in the sand. She watered all my plants for me and then played in the water with her dump truck, bucket and shovel. What a cutie!

Tonight she talked to Grandma. She also has a new imaginary friend. She keeps looking in the glass of the door and saying, "monkey!"

Bed was easy tonight too. I think we she take down the crib.

Bed Success

I think we have her in her bed now. She happily jumps in with her toys and goes to sleep. Last night she seemed wired though and wouldn't go to sleep. We had to take her for a drive, but she slept all night. She's been getting up early though so less sleep for Kendra. I'll try to get her to bed early tonight. She is just having so much fun now that it's summer.

Yesterday we went to Kindergym and ran into Tish and Terry-anne. Then we went to Kin Coullee and ran into Toby and Sarah. I miss those guys. We haven't been out with them in ages. We are going to the park next week together, but I might try and call them to get together sooner.

Her bed.

We are bed training if that is what you can call it. We got her a cute little princess bed. She can say princess well and can identify it on the bed. Tonight I slept on the floor for a bit beside her while she was in her bed, but she wouldn't go to sleep. Then she had a crying spell. I talked her back into the bed by telling her that she could take any toys she wanted into bed. She liked that idea and grabbed her dolls, some more stuffed animals and anything that would fit on her bed. She crawled in and I said good night. She played for a while longer and then cried. Not fiercely, just sulking kind of cry. She finally went to sleep at about 10pm. Her usual bedtime is at about 8pm.

Funny things that she did this past weekend.

She demands to wear a seatbelt when she uses the potty. When I tell her that she doesn't need one, she grabs her little broom, lays it across her thighs and screams, "That, seatbelt!"

She's on the swing. John lifts her up and is ready to let her go swing. She screams, "Say When!!!" Apparently John always tells her "say when" just before he drops her.

I tell Kendra she is a funny little girl and she says ,"funny face!" and immediately puts her fingers in her mouth to pull it open as wide as it can go.

We're in a restaurant and she lets out a big fart. A LOUD one. I whisper to her to say 'excuse me'. She turns to the restaurant and screams, 'scuuuuuuuuse me' again and again and again.

I'm sure there is more, but those are the ones that are sticking out in my mind.

Potty Training???

So school is out and the yearbook is done. I'm so happy to be out. Kendra's last day of her dayhome was Tuesday. She is really going to miss Kandace, Kennedy, and Kylie.

On Wednesday we went out to Echodale. Kendra loved the water and tried to venture out to the deep area before I caught her. I then tried to take her out deeper and she cried. What a mixed up child. We had McD's for lunch.

On Thursday I decided it was potty training time. She has been pee on the potty lots before and even went poop last week. I bought her 7 pairs of underwear and some training pants. I got her up and put her on the potty. Success! I kept her diaper off and put underwear on. I gave her lots to drink. I put the time on the stove for 20 minutes. Well, in the next hour we went through 4 pairs of underwear and she peed on the carpet. I don't think she is ready. So on went a pull up. I give up.

Today (Friday) , she went on the potty when she got up again. I decided to use Dora as an incentive. (We have a Dora video.) We kept the pull up on and went to the waterpark at Central Park. She had a great time with all the kids there. When we came back, she started to grunt like she was going to poop. I put her on the potty and a bit came out and then told her to do more and then we'd watch Dora. She did! That's actually the third time she's pooped in the potty. She didn't pee in the potty anymore today.

I think I just have to take it more slowly.

Anyway, we have new neighbours. Victoria (mom), John (dh) and Sidney (dd). Kendra loves Sidney. We went over to their balconey and Kendra played bubbles with her. They had a neat blower from Gymboree. I have to find Kendra one of those.

She has allergies or a cold.

I don't know if it's allergies or a cold. She has lots of stuff coming from her nose and tonight, she is coughing in bed. We gave her some tyenol sinus for children. I'm listening to her right now.

We went to the water park yesterday after work and she had a blast. She latched on to a 2 1/2 year old boy. She became his shadow. It was so cute. She got drenched. She also took a spill and banged up her forhead, her nose and both knees. She cried, but I kissed them better and she was off again.

We tried the water park again today, but she didn't like it as much. That little boy wasn't there... only big kids. They play too rough with her.

Read along.... LOL

Kandace says that Kendra isn't talking very much at her place, but talks way more when I show up. Hmmmmmmm. She is really shy around others. She talks up a storm at home. Today she was telling me about the park.

Her big thing now is to read along while I'm reading. It's like singing along for her. I read about 5 books to her when I got home and she read along with me the whole time. She says the words she knows and kind of tries with the others. It's so funny.

Mamaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I am sitting at my computer while Kendra is practicing her squeals from her bed. "mamaaaaaaaaaaa." She's been talking up a storm everynight in her crib. It takes her forever to go to sleep and then she is soooooooo tired in the morning. I don't know what to do. It's kind of cute listening to her.

I put on a necklace today that I hadn't worn since before she was born in fear of her yanking it off. She tried to grab it this morning and I told her not to touch it because it was special. She told me that it was "cute." She told me again this evening.

We've been working on sharing and turn taking. Poor girl thinks everything is hers and she won't let others use the things... such as her chair, her toys etc.

She is still squealing. "Mamaaaaaaaaaa, mama, nai-nai."

She's tired

She slept lots today and went down very easily a bit early tonight. We've had a Harley or something drive by each morning at about 5:30. Ugh. It wakes both of us up! And neither of us can get back to sleep. I think she's going to go through another growth spurt because she's eating lots again... except for tonight because she was so tired.

Happy Mother's Day and bought a van.

I got some nice flowers from John last night. Kendra made me a card at her dayhome. That was nice too.

We bought a van yesterday. Last week, my car broke down. The radiator has a hole in it and the head gasket is gone. We have put so much money into that thing, that it is time to let the NEON go. We bought a Dodge Caravan. It's a very light metalic blue. I love it. The paperwork goes through tomorrow, but they gave it to us already. It will be so nice camping this summer. Kendra likes her new car too. We have a hard time getting her out of it because she can walk around it now. She was unable to do that in the car.

ights? ights?

Today I came home at lunch because I had a wicked headache. I think it's the weather because it's raining now. Kendra stayed with Kandace until regular time.

I love the time we have together. We often go out on our deck and talk about the day. She really tries to tell me about what she did. Sometimes I understand it and sometimes I don't. She loves to dance. She'll turn on the CD player to the tune of Jack Johnson's Curious George Soundtrack and dance for a long time. She's started copying what I do, like putting her arms in the air or slapping her thighs. Then she wants me to copy her. She'll hop and order me to hop.

She's into light switches right now. She can't say 'lights' but will say 'ights' They other day at the park, the sun went behind a cloud and she said 'ights?' I guess she thought someone had turned out the lights on her. She needs to turn the lights on and off before she goes to bed.... what a cutie!

Dirt! Sand! Ugh!

We let Kendra play outside in the backyard today. As you can see, we still don't have any grass. Kendra tried eating it but found that it didn't taste very good. I think John and I really need to plant grass this year. The trouble is our back yard is all different levels and I don't know how to organize it. I really am tried of the dirt. The weeds are even trying to start to come in... GREEN! ugh. I would love to get her some climbing toys for the backyard. She loves going outside.

Counting!

I can't believe how much Kendra is learning these days. I've been trying to teach her numbers and she's done it before but now I catch her counting her toys! "two, three, two, three, six, ten!" She counts one at a time so carefully and cheers when she's done. I think I've cheered each time we've counted to ten so that's where she got that from. What a smartie!

Diaper Rash

Don't know what she got into but her rash looks so sore. Perhaps it was something she ate. She didn't want to have her diaper changed and screamed when we did it. Poor Kendra. Hope it goes away soon. We didn't give her a bath tonight because of it and put lots of cream on her.

She can dress herself!

DH was in and out of the garage and Kendra wanted to help. She put her boots on (on the wrong feet), her hat on (quite well!) and her coat on (backwards). She kept saying, "go, go, go, dad, go, dad, go" LOL. She was so proud and so was Mommy.

Elmo - Christmas Decoration

Video Sharing at DropShots.com

Kendra wouldn't go to bed without this Christmas decoration. We let her go to bed with Elmo and took it out of the crib later. She gets so attached to these things.

Drinking from a cup.

Kendra is getting quite demanding. She insists on a regular cup at meal times now even though it means getting half the water down the front of her. She now calls any cup or container other than her sippy cup "water". She pointed to my diet coke and said "Water, water, water" and begged for some. Don't worry, I didn't give her any.

She's also into singing at the moment. Take a look and listen to Row Row Row

Bathtime!

Video Sharing at DropShots.com

Kendra has quite a bit of fun in the bath these days. She still doesn't swim around, but she plays with her bath toys a lot. We have letters that still on the side of the tub and I think she is starting to recognize a few. She HATES getting her hair washed.

Kendra is a bit uneasy about the snow but she was curious. She went for a walk with but crashed into this fence in the back alley while investigating some snow on it. Poor little girl.

She used the Potty Twice today

She actually asked to use the potty today, twice and went both times. I'm so proud of her. We've had the potty for a while and she's been a few times but I've sat her on it and kept putting her back on it. I then got tired of it because she would sit for 2 seconds and then stand up and pee on the floor. She has been sitting on it clothed while I go. Today she said "po" which is her word for potty. I took her pants and diaper off and she sat down and immediately went... both times! She wiped too... LOL. Maybe we're getting closer.

She has another cold.

She's been sniffling and coughing for a couple of days now. The coughing keeps all of us up. Her new dayhome seems to be going well. It sounds like she is eating well.
